The Man In The Elevator
A man lives on the tenth floor of a building. Every morning he takes the elevator down to the lobby and leaves the building. In the evening, he gets into the elevator, and, if there is someone else in the elevator - or if it was raining that day - he goes back to his floor directly. Otherwise, he goes to the seventh floor and walks up three flights of stairs to his apartment. Can you explain why...
Frontier's Blips.
Fresh off the plane (on second thought, maybe that’s an oxymoron) from Denver to SFO. Frontier Airlines is certifiable proof that good marketing doesn’t always mean good product. But, since it’s a necessary evil for seamless Denver travel, I’ll take it.
Two things stand out in my mind tonight.
One, the never ending battle against the middle seat. Middle seats are by...
Commute.
I love my commute. I admit it. It may cause extensive sleep deprivation and put me at home later than most people’s regular dinner times. But, I love my commute. Interstate 280 south, with its lack of billboards or normal highway lighting, could be one of the coolest and most beautiful drives in America. It’s a refreshing and mind easing drive into Silicon Valley in the mornings,...
This Just In...
From Tyrrell in Japan (So glad he’s safe): this country man—it’s like the cop movies from the 70’s. people smoking at their desks in the office. it’s pretty funny. we’ve got a smoking room inside the junior high school for all the teachers. japan is a far cry from california. t
Thoughts on DRM
A solid blog pointed out to me by my good friend and co-worker Jeremy Norberg to start off your Monday morning: http://a.wholelottanothing.org/2005/01/the_point_that.html
From One Great City to Another
Back in SF. Had a great trip to the Windy City. Learned all about the place and toured around a bit after I had some meetings for work there. If you are ever in town, I highly recommend “Wild Fire”. They have possibly some of the greatest steak I have ever had. Amazing. Also, check out The Second City Chicago if you are ever in town. Their current revue “Red Scare” is...
Colossal Storm
Air travel is unfortunately subject to one major variable. Weather. I got lucky yesterday and was delayed at SFO not due to the massive ice storm streching from colorado to new york city, but because of a mechanical failure. After a six hour delay, and much fanagling with Frontier, I was on my way to Chicago yesterday. By the time we ended up in Denver, we had to sit on the runway for another hour...
Chicago
Off to Chicago in the morning for work. *packs ice/wind/cold/everything-proof down jacket* More dispatches from there. But something worthy of note I feel I need to mention. Apple’s added the ability to donate to the American Red Cros Tsunami Relief to the iTunes Music Store. You can now give to those in urgent need as easily as buying your favorite John Mayer or Dave track. I think this...
Stupid. Stupid. Tivo.
Tivo has point blank decided to alienate an entire market. I have half a mind to call over there and try to get ahold of someone in their marketing department. The story goes something like this. I realize this blog is lengthly, but its worth the read. I don’t watch much TV. I work a lot. I’ve been holding off on getting Tivo for some time, regardless of a few of my good buddies...
Genius.
If you aren’t on the idea-a-day email, you should be. It helps illustrate that every idea that you think hasn’t been thought of, has been. It’s all a question of who takes the initiative to make other people believe. I’ve always wondered why today’s idea hasn’t been done yet. It’d be perfect for people that need both a work and personal phone but...
Fom Pillows
I travel a lot for work. Thus I get to spend lots of time people watching in airports. It’s great fun and it’s easy to spot trends in what people are carrying with them. It’s also a great time for thinking about what people might want to carry with them. That’s the mind of a marketer for you. Fom pillows are brilliant! (say like the guiness ads…which themselves are...
